Tickets for the midnight showing are available online and White Rock Willie himself will be here translating pirate lingo and posing for photos starting at 11 p.m. He will also be at the planetarium and Megaplex 12 on Friday, May 20 from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. and 6:45 – 7:30 p.m.

On Saturday, April 16, 2011, the planetarium will transform into a place where wild creatures roam with help from our community partners: Utah’s Hogle Zoo, Salt Lake County Animal Services and Salt Lake County Library Services. While on expedition, kids will be able to visit with animals, decorate their own pith helmet, participate in a fingerprint mural and make craft items to take home. The event runs from 1 – 3 p.m. and all safari activities are free.

But the fun doesn’t stop there.

Your adventure won’t be complete without seeing the wonder captured by Born to be Wild in our ATK IMAX Theatre. Narrated by Academy-Award® winner Morgan Freeman, the show is an inspiring story of love, dedication and the remarkable bond between humans and animals. Craig Trewet from Boeing will give a special presentation at 6:45 p.m. in the ATK  IMAX® Theatre on the design and production of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and how it may affect the next 100 years of aeronautical design.

trewetTrewet is the Director of the Boeing Salt Lake City site, earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering technology from Weber State University and a master’s degree in business administration from Seattle University.  He has completed executive programs at the University of Washington and Columbia University.  Prior to his current position, Trewet was senior manager of the Safety, Certification and Performance on the Next-Generation 737 program.  Trewet has also held positions in 737 airplane systems engineering as the leader of Flight Controls, Mechanical Systems and Environmental Controls, Systems Integration and senior manager for 747 airframe manufacturing engineering.

Following Trewet’s presentation, audience members will see Legends of Flight 3D. Note: We will feature an encore presentation of Legends of Flight 3D at 8:30 p.m.

Sam, a tech-savvy 27-year-old, is haunted by the mysterious disappearance of his father, a man once known as the world’s leading video-game developer. When Sam investigates a strange signal sent from his father’s abandoned arcade he finds himself pulled into a world where his father has been trapped for 20 years. Now, father and son must embark on a life-or-death journey across a visually-stunning digital universe.  TRON: LEGACY will play at 1:30 p.m, 4:20 p.m., 7:10 p.m. and 10 p.m. daily and advance tickets can be purchased online.

Guests can get here by broomstick or car……or they can ride the Hogwarts Express (TRAX) to Station 9 ¾ (otherwise known to Muggles as the TRAX Planetarium Stop).  Once here, guests will step into Harry’s shoes and embark on a mystical journey filled with magic, scientific wonder and excitement.
